You should check out an "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" novel (yes, these are also actual). Lots of sexy vampires, and necromancers, and werewolves, oh my!

I suckered myself into picking up a copy of Twilight from Powells after reading about the movie version, part of which was filmed around Portland and Cannon Beach. I'm 250 pages in and, honestly, it's not so great. Nonetheless, I find myself unable to toss it back onto the bookshelf next to the copy of What is the What I gave up on after 200 pages. %#%@#! Northwestern vampires.

I know. The best part is, when seminar rolled around, I felt like a know it all. But a stupid know it all because in describing said developmental biology and human evolution I couldn't form a fully cogent sentence (thank you melted lobe and cortex).

Oh well. Can't wait for the next one.

C - You are far more restrained than I am! After I randomly bought the first one at Target, I had to head to the bookstore first thing the next morning to buy ALL the others so I wouldn't be caught empty handed upon finishing one. It is like verbal crack.

T - Yeah, there are chess pieces on the cover, which have little if anything to do with the story. (I...don't know.) I did read His Dark Materials, and I really liked it. The plotline there is about 400x as complex as in the Twilight books. Some of those could have been a bit longer, even, as several threads felt sort of incomplete to me at the end.

R - OMG, I am not jealous at all. Ouch! At least it's over (until the next time, I assume!)

I spent all day Saturday (literally) reading a twenty page article entitled "Developmental Biology and Human Evolution" that nearly melted my cerebral cortex AND my frontal lobe.

Yes, that's right. Twenty pages. All day. Oof.
