Summer Reading Update: Krakauer! and Eggers?

Thanks for the suggestions so far on my Summer reading list. Keep ‘em coming!

I am here only briefly, so that I can report having finished Krakauer’s Into the Wild, which I enjoyed very much indeed. I was writing a post about it, but I wound up discussing the film as well, so I put it on the media blog. Here it is.

Still plugging away at the Eggers, which is quite long and, I have to say, hasn’t won me over yet. Usually Eggers doesn’t have to win me over! My default setting is “LOVE EGGERS.” I guess we’ll see if anything great happens in the next 300 (gulp!) pages.

Um, yeah, I kind of quit What is the what partway through because, like, what the hell happened to your amazing powers of storytelling, Eggers? Hmmmm?

Yeah, seriously. My biggest complaint, in hindsight, I think, is that I can’t get emotionally invested in the guy because I already know that he ends up okay in America with a decent job and a hot girlfriend. Yeah, his life was hard at one point, but completely without tension from the reader’s side. Le sigh.

I really hope that it just sucks because he was trying to be all political and tell a true story, and that he will eventually return to doing awesome things.
