Do you think it’s significant that my students insist on calling Humbert Humbert "Humpert"?

perhaps it is because they have the following lyrics stuck in their heads: my humpert, my humpert, my lovely lady humperts.

Some years ago a well-respected British TV quiz shows for students asked a contestant the name of the child-obsessed hero of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel . . etc etc . . . and amazed the audience at home by then insisting that the paedophilic villain was called ‘Hubert Humphrey’.

I do not think Grimm’s Law means what you think it means…
